Who kills Littlefinger?

Potential Spoilers Below

In ASOIAF Tyrion and Littlefinger are the counterparts to  Matrim Cauthon and Padan Fain from the Wheel of Time respectively.  The Ruby-Hilted dagger that Mat finds and is then stolen by Padan Fain almost cost Mat his life because of its poisonous nature.  In ASOIAF Littlefinger claims the Catspaw dagger belonged to Tyrion which in turn almost cost him his life when Catelyn seeks vengeance and takes him prisoner.  If the stories match up in this fashion Littlefinger will die by the Catspaw dagger by Tyrion.  But the one thing that may preclude that from happening is the fact that one character’s characteristics from TWOT is given to 2 or more characters in ASOIAF.

“He later joined with the Whitecloaks in Amador, calling himself Ordeith, Old Tongue for “Wormwood.” He led the Whitecloaks to the Two Rivers, having convinced them that it was full of Darkfriends; his real goal was to harrow the area and draw Rand to him. He killed Perrin’s family, but was thwarted in his main purpose. Next he made his way to Tar Valon, where he spoke with Elaida about Rand and stole the dagger again.”

This to sums up Littlefinger IMO.  Padan Fain led Whitecloaks to the Two Rivers killed Perrin’s family.  Bran is Perrin’s counterpart in TWOT.  Littlefingers actions to start the series; having Lysa Arryn send the false message to Catelyn about Jon Arryn being murdered, led to the downfall of the Stark Family.  Littlefinger bribes the Gold cloaks to betray Ned Stark that leads to his death.  Is not Littlefinger’s scheming trying to turn Sansa against Jon Snow and eliminating him from the picture like Padan Fain did in a similar fashion with Rand?

Finally a great pair of bronze doors appeared to her left, grander than the rest. They swung open as she neared, and she had to stop and look. Beyond loomed a cavernous stone hall, the largest she had ever seen. The skulls of dead dragons looked down from its walls. Upon a towering barbed throne sat an old man in rich robes, an old man with dark eyes and long silver-grey hair. “Let him be king over charred bones and cooked meat,” he said to a man below him. “Let him be the king of ashes.” Drogon shrieked, his claws digging through silk and skin, but the king on his throne never heard, and Dany moved on.”

Dany and Drogon

Instead of having Littlefinger say “Let him be king over charred bones and cooked meat,” it was given to the Mad King.  However in the TV show they did circle back to this and Vary’s said something about Littlefinger that described Padan Fain:

Padan Fain like Littlefinger would rather rule over bones if it meant he ended up the last one standing

Below is how Padan Fain died:

Shaitan seized the battlefield, his mist shoving through those wolves and men who thought to bar his way to al’Thor.

Padan Fain in his mists

Yes, al’Thor. The one he would kill, destroy, feast upon. Yes, al’Thor!

Something trembled at one edge of his senses. Shaitan hesitated, frowning to himself. What was wrong there? A piece of him ... a piece of him had stopped sensing.

What was this? He ran his physical form across the ground through the mist. Blood trailed from his fingers, flayed by the dagger he carried, the wonderful seed, the last bit of his old self.

He came upon a corpse, one that his mists had killed. Shaitan frowned bending down. That body looked familiar . . .

The corpses hand reached up and grabbed Shaitan by the throat. He gasped, thrashing, as the corpse opened its eye.

There’s an odd thing about diseases I once heard, Fain,” Matrim Cauthon whispered. “Once you catch a disease and survive, you cant get it again.”

Shaitan thrashed, panicked. No. No, this was not how a meeting with an old friend should go! He clawed at the hand holding him, then realized with horror that he’d dropped the dagger.

Cauthon pulled him down, slamming him to the ground. Shaitan called for his drones. Too late! Too slow!

“I’ve come to give you your gift back, Mordeth,” Cauthon whispered. “I consider our debt paid in full.”

Cauthon rammed the dagger right between the ribs, into Shaitan’s heart. Tied to this pitiful mortal form, Mordeth screamed. Padan Fain howled, and felt his flesh melting from his bones. The mists trembled, began to swirl and shake.

Together they died.”

“I consider our debt paid in full.”  This line to me would be perfect in its symmetry if uttered by Tyrion as “A Lannister always pays his debts.”  However since it is Arya that is shown with the Catspaw dagger is it her who is somehow disguised as Tyrion who utters these words?  Thus the reason she has the dagger that almost took her brothers life.

Will Littlefinger seeking to kill Jon Snow who is the Rand al’Thor character die when he seeks to do what Padan Fain did get killed by the Catspaw dagger in a like fashion?

Comments encouraged.  Love to hear the idea’s of others.  Most believe that since I present my idea’s as “fact like” I’m not open to change my viewpoints which is far from the truth.  I simply look at the information presented and go from there.  If you can shine a light on another way of thinking that opens the door to debate.

    1. So have you read TWOT? It seems that when I post blogs about the similarities and the metaphors that seem to line up so well between the two books most people think I am just making it up. I just pull from the pages of the books themselves and let you make up your own mind.

  4. In TWOT the character Padan Fain (Littlefinger) used the ruby-hilted dagger (catspaw dagger) to put fear into both Trollocs (Wights) and Myrddrall (White Walkers). Will the Night King know this dagger and be afraid of it?

“Fain drew a deep breath and fingered the rubyhilted dagger at his belt. That had come from Shadar Logoth, too. It was the only weapon he carried, the only one he needed; it felt like a part of him. He was whole within himself, now. That was all that mattered.”

“It had been a struggle at first, waking each morning to find himself not completely whole, to find the Myrddraal back in command, raging and demanding they go north, to the Blight, to Shayol Ghul. But bit by bit those mornings of weakness grew shorter, until ... He remembered the feel of the hammer in his hand, driving the spikes in, and he smiled; this time it did touch his eyes, with the joy of sweet memory.”

“Fain ignored all of it — he had no fear of turning his back on them, not since they had seen the Fade dealt with — and went to his prize. Kneeling, he ran his hands over the ornate, golden chest, feeling the power locked inside. He had to have a Trolloc carry it — he did not trust the humans enough to load it on a horse and packsaddle; some dreams of power might be strong enough to overcome even fear of him, but Trollocs never dreamed of anything except killing — and he had not yet puzzled out how to open it. But that would come. Everything would come. Everything.

Unsheathing the dagger, he laid it atop the chest before settling himself down beside the fire. That blade was a better guard than Trolloc or human. They had all seen what happened when he used it, once; none would come within a span of that bared blade without his command, and then reluctantly.”

  5. Littlefinger's thoughts "What we don't know is usually what gets us killed" pretty much sum up the character that he is based upon IMO Padan Fain. He was also killed with his own knife and his ignorance of the man who did it was his downfall.
