Varys is Moghedien

Potential Spoilers Below

Moghedien (moh-GHEH-dee-ehn; Old Tongue: Spider), formerly known as Lilen Moiral, was one of the thirteen Forsaken trapped at Shayol Ghul due to the Dragon's sealing. She considers herself the master of Tel'aran'rhiod.

The investment advisor Lilen Moiral joined The Shadow long before the War of Power began, hiding her allegiance, conspiring and plotting from the shadows. This later earned her the name Moghedien, a small spider from the Age of Legends that lived in hiding, with a poison that killed within seconds.

Moghedien was the most cautious and least confrontational of the Forsaken. Her cunning exploits in the name of the Shadow earned her the name Moghedien - Spider. She always worked from the shadows, and claimed this way was the best. She proves this by being the only surviving Forsaken; she didn't even have to be reborn, unlike Graendal and Lanfear.

Moghedien disguises herself as Gyldin, a Darkfriend merchant's servant, to keep an eye on Liandrin and the other Black sisters in Tanchico. There, she plans to gain possession of the Domination Band in order to control Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn.

“Facing Moghedien is difficult, and not only because she is Forsaken. She hides “and takes no risks. She attacks only where she sees weakness, and moves only in shadows. If she fears defeat, she will run; she is not one to fight to the last, even when doing so has the chance of victory. A chance is not enough for Moghedien. But do not take her lightly. She is a serpent coiled in high grass, waiting her own moment to strike, with less compassion than the snake. Especially here do not take her lightly. Lanfear always claimed Tel'aran'rhiod for her own, but Moghedien could do things here far beyond Lanfear, though she has not Lanfear's strength in the world of flesh. I think she would not take the risk of confronting Lanfear.”

-       A quote from Birgitte to Nynaeve about Moghedien
    (The Shadow Rising chapter 52)

Lord Varys, called "the Spider", is an enigmatic member of the small council and the master of whisperers, or spymaster, for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms.

Varys
Varys
The Iron Throne
Varys is a eunuch; he is plump, completely bald, and effeminate. He has soft white hands. He powders his face and smells of lilacs.

He prefers comfortable clothing, fine silks (often in outrageous colors), velvets, the richest damasks, and soft slippers that allow him to walk without making any sound. His outward manner is obsequious, mysterious, and squeamish. He is a master of disguise and can easily change his appearance, gait, smell, and costume to become unrecognizable.

Secrets are Varys’s trade, and his skill at acquiring them has earned him a reputation for being seemingly omniscient. Crucial to his trade is a spy network of children that he refers to as his "little birds".

His history of providing information to all sides, of aiding enemies, of pitting rivals against one another, and of manipulation to achieve his ends has earned him a reputation of being distasteful and untrustworthy amongst the nobles at court. In private, however, he claims to value order, stability, and peace above all, and professes loyalty to those who work for those goals as well.

Though nothing that Varys says can be completely trusted, he claims to have been born a slave in Lys that was sold and apprenticed to a traveling folly, a troupe of mummers who worked the Free Cities, Oldtown, and occasionally King's Landing, by means of a fat little cog owned by the troupe's master. During their stay in Myr, a man offered a large sum of money for Varys, an offer his master found too tempting to refuse. The man gave Varys a potion that made him powerless to move or speak, but did nothing to dull his senses as his manhood was cut off at the stem, then burnt in a brazier in a Blood Magic ritual. Varys claims to have held a hatred for all things magical ever since.

With the ritual complete, the man had no further use for Varys and tossed him out on the streets. Varys asked the man what he should do, to which the sorcerer replied he supposed that he should die. Varys to spite him vowed to live.

So how will things turn out for Varys?

Those of you who have read the books or just seen the show should be able to see that Varys has the same characteristics as Moghedien.

Since Moghedien didn't die could mean that he won't either but with George R. R. Martin who knows.  It may suggest that he may try and gain control of the Dragon binding horn, through one of his many agents, that Euron Greyjoy gave to Victarion Greyjoy to bind Daenerys Targaryen's dragons almost like Moghedien trying to gain possession of the Domination Band.  I believe that he may be an agent of the Great Other as a result of the Blood Magic ritual that was forced upon him by the mysterious man in Myr.

What does it mean that a Blood Magic ritual was performed on Varys as a child?  Could it means that he is of royal blood?  Melisandre uses the "blood of kings" in her rituals to her god R'hllor.  Could the Great Other's agents do the same.  When Varys said: "The flames turned blue, and I heard a voice answer his call, though I did not understand the words they spoke."  Was this the agent of the Great Other speaking almost like when Melisandre see's images in her red flames?

The series is called "The Song of Ice and Fire".  The Great Other being ice and R'hllor being fire.  That would also mean that Jon Snow is a combination of ice and fire being that his mother is Lyanna Stark being "ice" and his father as I see it is Rhaegar Targaryen "fire".  After Rand al'Thor had "learned all the secrets" in "A Memory of Light".  He knew that neither the Dark One's way or his way would be good for mankind.  He learned that people needed to be free to make their own choices.  Will Jon as Azor Ahai come to the same conclusions in the end?

It makes sense to me as the Great Other's forces are once again on the move after 8,000 years of being dormant.  Almost the same as the Dark One in the Wheel of Time.  Could it be that Azor Ahai was able to seal the Great Other away and that he is now after all these years breaking the bonds of his prison and now his forces led by the Others and Wights, like the Myraddraal and Trolloc's, are trying to bring about the final battle to decide it all?
